Worka [2022]

Worka pays homage to all the hard working Ethiopian producers who put their love, sweat and hopefully not too many tears into this tasty batch of beans. In the town of Worka you will find the Worka Cooperative which operates the Halo Fafate Washing Station in Yirgacheffe. This washing station serves approximately 900 smallholder farmers in the area. Coffee is delivered to the station by producers in the form of cherries, they are then dried on raised beds. Once dried, the coffee is separated into groupings of 150 bags of parchment coffee. It is then processed and sorted without retaining any information of which producer’s coffee harvest is in which bag. From all that unknown comes Worka, with incredible consistency and a clean as heck palette that you wouldn’t expect from a lot with possibly 900 producers having a hand in it. From the time of picking to drying there is a focus on speed to get the coffee processed as fast as possible. This focus leads to fabulously refined flavour. This coffee hits you with pronounced fruity sweetness and deep creamy notes. You can expect blackberry up front matched with cola which is then pulled together by the smooth papaya syrupy body.
